Our Pastor

          Reverend Dr. Donald Lee Sharp

. . . was born August 10, 1937, Chicago, Illinois.  Married to Lurlie Heard Sharp, retired RN.  He served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1962. 

He was licensed to preach in 1957 by the late Reverend S. A. Grayson, Pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Chicago; ordained in 1964 by the late Reverend H.N. Mitchell, Pastor of New Philadelphia Baptist Church, Chicago. Rev. Sharp is the organizing Pastor of the  Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church (FTBC), Chicago, Illinois, 1964. His formal education includes: Douglas Elementary School, Hyde Park High School, B.A.  Degree De Paul University, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Masters of Arts Religion (MAR/UM), Doctor of  Educational Ministry (D.Ed. Min), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Project Title - A Strategy to Strengthen African American Families at the Faith  Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois, December 2011).

Rev. Sharp has extensive leadership skills as noted:

President,  Chicago Bible Society (1975-1994),
Black Church Services Consultant,
Chicago Metropolitan  Baptist Association (CMBA, 1974 - 1980). 
His leadership entailed trusteeship with Boyce Bible College, Louisville, Kentucky.

He also have served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Urban Life Center,  American Chicago Center for Urban Life & Culture, Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE), Associate Baptist Press (Jacksonville, Fl),Chicago Community Loan Fund. 
Served on Board of Directors of the Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA),
  Springfield, Il from 1974 - 1980.  Subsequently, elected as Vice-President of the IBSA, Springfield, IL from 1981- 1983. 

  Most importantly, history will illustrate that Rev. Dr. Donald L. Sharp  was the 1st African     American elected as the President of the Illinois Baptist State Association (1983 - 1985).  Another historical note is that Pastor Sharp was again elected to serve as president in 2002  only the second person to have served a second time.

         Currently, he serves on the Board of Trustees of the
         GuideStone Financial Services (SBC).

               He is also featured in the following publications:
